Hello! I’m Paul

Wildlife Artist

Biography

Paul Dixon is a painter of wildlife living and working in Cape Town, South Africa.

His work is primarily carried out in oils, but he occasionally works with pastel or graphite.

As a self-taught artist, Paul has developed his own ‘realistic’ but not ‘photographic’ style. He strives to capture the light and atmosphere that affect the subjects he paints in their natural environment, lending authenticity to the finished works.

His work has been exhibited in the United States, the United Kingdom and across Southern Africa on numerous occasions and can be found in private and corporate collections around the globe.

Paul has had his work featured on a number of occasions in various international publications.

He has been the recipient of several awards, the most recent and notable of which are the winning of the ‘Earth’s Wild Beauty’ category in the ‘David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year’ competition 2020, often considered to be the ‘Oscars’ of Wildlife Art, and the winner of the ‘Africa Wildlife Artist of the Year’ 2023.

He was the Grand Prize winner in the International Artist magazine “Wildlife” category in 2013 and has been a finalist on numerous occasions.

He was also a winner in the ‘Over 60’s’ Competition of the Artists Magazine (USA) in April 2020.

He has been a signature member of the U.S. based ‘Society of Animal Artists’ since the year 2000.

To raise awareness and much-needed funds, Paul regularly makes donations of his works to worthy causes to help mitigate the threat of extinction of the wildlife he paints.
